Melanie Yukumoto and Todd Yukumoto (husband and wife) are two musicians I respect greatly in Hawaii. Not only are they awesome people, but they are sensitive, responsive, and gutsy musicians. It’s always such a pleasure to play with them because they know how to throw down and fully commit to the music moment by moment. We met on a rainy afternoon on December 20th of 2023 and freely improvised this score 6 times. Below are takes no. 1 and no. 6. Can you guess which is which?
